On April 10th, our class will be joining Mrs. Boucher's class on the annual 5th Grade trip to Concord, Mass. to visit the Concord Museum and the North Bridge where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired. The trip takes place rain or shine so please remember to check the weather report the day before. There is a lot of walking outside so rain gear may be needed. Snacks should be packed as well as lunch. We may be looking for a couple of chaperones, so if you have filled out your CORI forms and you have a desire to join us please let me know on the permission slip that is going home tonight. Last year, except for getting lost on the way there, we had a beautiful day and the students really got a lot out of the trip. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a repeat day weather-wise.

Week of 3/26 - 3/30
The final session of ELA MCAS highlights the week as we enter the last days of March Hopefully the old adage is spot on as we are hoping "March goes out like a lamb". The class worked hard during the first session last week and I will be expecting nothing less this week as we start fresh after a restful weekend.
Permission slips for the Human Growth and Development videos will be going home this week. Please be sure to sign and return these forms as soon as possible. The viewing of the films will occur on April 12th and 13th.
I will be available for after school homework assistance this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:00PM. Please be sure to bring a note to school so the office knows you are able to stay.

Week of 3/19 - 3/23 - MCAS Testing begins
We made it through report card and conference week so now we head to MCAS Testing for ELA on Wednesday the 21st for Session #! and then on Monday the 26th for Session #2. With testing on Wednesday of this week, there will be no homework assigned on Tuesday evening, rendering after-school hours rather useless, so therefore, there will be none offered on Tuesday. We will have hours as usual on Thursday as there will be a brief Unit 11 assessment in Math on Friday the 23rd.
The 5th grade field trip to Concord to visit the scene of the opening shots of the Revolutionary War will be held on April 10th and 11th. We will be making the journey with Mrs. Boucher's class on one of these days. As soon as we know more we will be sending info home regarding the trip and possibly looking for chaperones to join us.
Human Growth and Development for the 5th grade class is scheduled be held on Thursday and Friday, April 12th and 13th.
Just a reminder for this week, the students reading My Brother Sam is Dead and Woods Runner will have a vocabulary quiz on the first half of their respeective books.

Mythmasters
What a great time the 5th grade had this past Thursday as the two-person company, Mythmasters, came to perform at the Proctor School. They had the students (and teachers) in stitches as they performed three Greek myths and explained the purpose of myths in ancient times. If you ever have the opportunity to see a show presented by this company, take advantage of it.

Week in Review and Looking Ahead
The class enjoyed the visit of Tom Wahle (click here for Techsploration website) on Wednesday as he spoke to the class about weather. He used many cool demonstrations that illustrated such weather phenomenon as lightening, air pressure, hurricanes, and tornadoes, among others. The students enjoyed Mr. Wahle's unique teaching methods as there was humor and audience participation throughout the presentation.
As we wrapped our brief unit on Earth Processes (earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, etc.) we look forward to moving on to weathering and erosion next.
Coming up this week, we have a brief assessment on Unit 10 in Math dealing with ordered pairs and coordinate points. In ELA, we will continue working on some practice MCAS assessments as we prepare for the actual tests coming up at the end of March. The 5th grade will be testing on Wednesday, March 21st and Monday, March 26th.
Report cards will be sent home on Monday, March 12th. Parent conferences will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday the 13th and 14th. School will be dismissed on both days at 12 noon and lunch will not be served. If you have not had the chance to return your preferred times to me for conferences, please do so.
I will be available on Tuesday, the 6th, and Thursday, the 8th, for after-school hours from 3:15pm to 4:00pm. Please be sure to provide a note if you intend to stay after.
It's good to see the blog membership growing. Nice to have more readers. Thanks.
