Winding Down

As last week came to a close we had the opportunity to test our egg drop contraptions. Special thanks go out to Mr. Conary who climbed up on the roof with our projects and acted as "The Launcher". Many of the projects were very creative and all fell under the required 200 gram limit. At first blush, it seemed most of the projects would accomplish the goal of landing without breaking the enclosed egg, but after all were dropped, only a handful remained intact. Some minor adjusting was all that was needed in most cases and I'm sure if there was a second time around we would see a significant uptick in successful drops.

We also worked with density in Science as we attempted to "layer" water of different densities. Groups were given four different containers of water with each container having a different salt-to-water content and each with a different color food coloring.. The different amount os salt created a different density for water in each container. We were then able order the densities by using trial and error. We were actually able to get four layers of colored water in our test tubes.

This week is a busy one as we wind down to the end of the school year. Band members will be performing for the entire school on Tuesday morning and then for family and friends on Tuesday evening. It should be great to see the results of all of the hard work put in this year. We will be starting our geodesic domes (if the newspapers continue to come in) and on Wednesday we will also be performing our three Readers' Theater plays on Greek Myths. Finally, we will be presenting our PowerPoint presentations on the Bill of Rights. These presentations were looking great during the developmental stage last week.
