Another Year of the Fair and Looking Ahead

I hope this post finds you all having enjoyed another great year at the fair and also a surprisingly good Columbus Day Weekend weather wise. While I am not a big fair participant, I enjoy seeing the joy that the fair brings to the students in my class and to the residents of Topsfield. It's amazing how much work goes into putting this event on every year and then how fast it seems to end.

Now, back to school. As we move forward this week we will continue our writing unit on Argument/Persuasive writing as we write the body of our first essay. It is a complex style of writing and a rather difficult one to start the year with, but the class appears to be getting a handle on it and we will be working on this style for the next few weeks.

In Science we will be continuing our unit on Color and Light. We will be breaking out the flashlights, prisms, and lasers this week to do a little work in class.

I want to let all 5W families know that starting next week, the week of October 15th, I will be offering after school time for extra help and homework assistance. Every Tuesday and Thursday I will be available after school starting at 3:15PM and running until 4:00PM. Please be sure to bring in a note from home if you are planning on staying.

I have been lucky enough to be dog-sitting the past couple weeks as I have had some friends and relatives head off to some other parts of the world. It's great getting up in the morning and heading out with them and then going on our long long evening walks in the woods. The two boys head home this week and they will be missed.
