Week of October 22nd Update

Hard to believe that we are heading into the last full week of October already, but here we are. This week is sure to be a busy one as guest instructors, new concepts , and our first Social Studies assessment highlight the week.

On Monday, keep your eyes open for the first term Progress Reports that will be sent home with students. Please take a look at it, sign it, and have your child return it to me at school as soon as you can. Also, feel free to jot a note at the bottom of the report if you have questions about it and I will try get right back to you/

On Tuesday and Thursday, Ms. Patsy Eldridge will be seeing individual 5th grade classes and she will be leading labs on Color and Light. These labs will be the culmination to our unit that we have been working on since the beginning of the year. Ms. Eldridge always captivates the classes as she has a knack for finding interesting activities that illustrate her educational concepts. The kids always have fun while learning a lot whenever she visits.

In Math, we will take a two day break from multiplication and division to take a look at a new concept that is introduced in Math in Focus, Bar Modeling. This is a visual method that is used in solving word problems. It has proven to be effective with other districts that have adopted the program and we are hoping that this holds true at Proctor, too.

On Friday we will have our first assessment in Social Studies. The assessment will be on the US. Constitution and how it created our form of government. Study guides have been handed out and we will be reviewing throughout the week.

I will be available for after school hours this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 - 4:00. Please remember a note if you are planning on utilizing this time.

Remember that Friday is an early release day for students.. Students will be released at 1:15. Lunch WILL be served.
